AKC CAR Donates over $8,000 to Support the Search One Rescue Team (Lewisville, Tx)

Raleigh, NC (February 2, 2009) - AKC Companion Animal Recovery recently awarded an AKC CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund grant to the Search One Rescue Team from Lewisville, Texas. Search One is among the largest and oldest State Animal Response (SAR) teams in Texas. The major governmental agencies in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area now rely on Search One as their primary resource for lost and missing person searches, which involve the use of specially-trained canines.

The $8,060 grant will allow the Search One Rescue Team to purchase new hand-held and mobile radios in the UHF range in addition to a solar-powered repeater. The radio devices will allow this rescue team to obtain better distance coverage as well as avoid interference by other non-SAR entities in the area. The solar-powered repeater will allow for extended range during a disaster response where there is no power grid available.

"This organization has been instrumental in saving many lives each year and has helped raise the standard for SAR teams in Texas," said Tom Sharp, Vice President and CEO of AKC CAR. "We are very pleased to be able to award this grant that will better equip Search One with reliable equipment to provide the best response possible."
