AKC CAR Operating Fund

AKC CAR is the nation's largest non-profit pet recovery service. Our recovery center reunites lost pets that have microchips, tattoos or AKC CAR collar tags with their owners. Over 30 different species are in our recovery database, including dogs, cats, llamas, ferrets, birds and many more. Because we care about all animals, AKC CAR enrolls all brands of microchips.

As a non-profit organization it is vital to give back to the companion animal community. All donations to the AKC CAR Operating Fund will help further our efforts to support the companion animal community. This Fund helps AKC CAR in its efforts to provide low cost and donated microchips, scanners and enrollments; free recovery service enrollments to active military and service animals and much more.

Canine Support and Relief Fund

In 2002 AKC CAR expanded its reach and cause, creating the AKC CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund which, to date, has provided:

  1. $1.5MM in disaster relief in response to hurricanes, floods and wildfires.
  2. Nearly $300,000 in Search and Rescue grants in response to 9/11.
  3. Half a million dollars in grants for Canine Support and Relief.

And beyond the grants from the Canine Support and Relief Fund, we also provide extensive volunteer coordination and direction of corporate sponsorships to provide animals in need with food and supplies. AKC Companion Animal Recovery even extends free enrollments for hundreds of service animals across the United States.

Veterinary Student Scholarships

Veterinarian support of microchipping pets plays an integral part in responsible pet ownership. This is why, since 2002, AKC CAR has awarded $100,000 toward 20 veterinary student scholarships each year to well deserving veterinary school students.
